Oakland ‘Food Groups’ featured in NY Times Magazine

This past Sunday, NY Times Magazine published their annual food issue and featured a big, beautiful spread on the Oakland DIY food scene. Dubbed ‘Food Groups,’ the photo shoot features local picklers, brewers, foragers, chefs, butchers, and more. Among those shot are the boys of Linden Street Brewery, the badasses from Avedano’s and Marin Sun Farms, and the young couple running BAB-loved ForageSF. I especially love the colors and composition of the photo featuring the local fruit ladies of Slow Jams and Blue Chair Fruit, pictured above. These people all share something in common- a commitment to a quality both in process and product; slow, thorough, natural, happy. Best of all, most of them were participants at Eat Real, which also gets featured in the issue as the ‘Urban County Fair.’ I raise my mason jar to them in congratulations and hopes to see them all at next year’s festivities!
